This study employs media framing analysis and six (6) empirical studies on environmental communication, reporting, and coverage on different aspects of the Niger Delta were analysed. These empirical studies were purposively selected because they showed framed environmental issues in the Niger Delta. Such framed issues border on natural disasters and public resilience, public awareness, and knowledge of media campaigns, coverage patterns, challenges of newspaper reportage, content, and hermeneutical analysis of selected newspapers’ reportage, and implications of reporting in Nigerian newspapers on people’s attitudes. The media framing patterns for this study involved the selection of some aspects of a perceived reality and made them more salient in a communicating text, to promote a particular problem definition, causal interpretation, moral evaluation, and/or treatment recommendation for the item described. It was discovered that understanding the influence of media framing on public opinion and policymaking has significant implications for sustainable environmental reportage or coverage. It underscores the importance of transparent and inclusive media practices that provide balanced and diverse perspectives on issues. Policymakers must be cognisant of the power of media framing and consider public opinion as a crucial factor in decision-making processes. To promote a well-informed environmental coverage and reportage, media literacy and critical thinking skills should be nurtured, not just amongst citizens, but among specialist reporters on the environment. Amongst others, it is therefore recommended that the media, both print and the electronic are expected to double their efforts beyond just the traditional “5Ws” and “H” (what happened, when it happened, where it happened? why it happened? To whom it happened, and how it happened?) Reportage of the environment should be systematic investigative and interpretative to enable stakeholders understand and appreciate issues in the Niger Delta environment from a more informed perspective.
